Visitors included Kelsey Naschek, Tony Dycus and James Reynolds. A few moments were spent filling everyone in on the details of our recent banquet, the upcoming Jay Sankey lecture, and a few notes on future conventions. Our door prize was a set of Darwin Ortiz lecture notes donated by Ken Simmons, and it was won by Kent Laird.
The magical theme for the evening was "Balloon Magic." Rick Hinze performed an interesting needle through balloon using a small metal sleeve. Ken Scott twisted a balloon animal, put a balloon costume on his volunteer and found a selected card using a clown prop. Paul Sponaugle borrowed a lady's ring (his wife Sherry's!) and magically passed it into an inflated balloon and, following a needle-almost-through-balloon attempt, Paul passed the ring through into another balloon before magically retrieving it. Joe M. Turner tried to extract a signed card from a deck magically suctioned into a balloon, but the balloon broke while the deck was inside, forcing Joe to punt and retrieve the signed selection from his pocket. Another attempt with a new balloon came a few minutes later and he succeeded in completing the trick. Paul Sponaugle earned the first monthly theme magic award of the new year, century, and millennium.
In general magic, Stefan Bartelski performed an interesting book test, and Dale Adamson found a signed, selected card with the help of a fortune-telling fish. David Oglesby performed a torn and restored card routine with a moving Gospel presentation.
Several members stayed late to try out new ideas and get feedback. Our
meeting was a good start to another great year of magic in Atlanta. Ya'll
come visit.
