We started with a great lecture from Joe Turner and Ken Scott. They just returned from the Magic Castle (Joe as a visitor and Ken as a lecturer) and they talked about their experiences.
Several folks performed for membership.
Kevin McDavid had some blank cards that all suddenly grew faces to match a selected card – but then they all turned blank and the selected card became blank as well – but suddenly turned up reversed in the middle of the deck!
Justin McCartney performed a very popular spongeball routine
Things started flying as soon as Ernie Becker came up…and he went into a really funny linking ring routine while his props spilled on the floor. He then did a riotous Mental Epic routine.
Jim McCartney produced from his pockets both a small appearing wand and a ten foot wand.
The month’s theme was Junk Drawer Magic, and the theme performers came next.
David Spear tied two rags around himself..gave a huge tug…and they came free with a pair of his old undies attached. It was a horrible experience for everyone, but we laughed anyway.
Bob Winstead did a great ambitious card routine.
Dale Adamson immediately brought down the house when he accidentally discovered a cookie in his props. He then put four cards into examined leather envelopes and the selected card reversed itself inside an envelope.
David Oglesby did a Pirates of the Caribbean trick with a great treasure map. The selected card became the treasure. Mark Hatfield held the map in his hands…an X disappeared from the map and appeared on a single card in the deck – which was the selected card!
Ken Scott did a fast array of silly tricks that made us laugh, culminating in a nest of junk drawers, inside of which was a previously marked dollar bill.
General Magic concluded the show.
Joe Turner demonstrated a packet trick, and Craig Winkleman demonstrated his new linking ring idea.
Fred Kirkland had an antique trick called Whizzy Dizzy Milk that he shared with us. Much milk disappeared and reappeared…some of it reappeared by accident.
Ken Scott then returned to the stage. Mary Doty was called down as a volunteer to great applause. Joe Turner was also called up. Mary picked a card with a name on it. Joe made a guess and failed, to much hilarity caused by Mary. But on the third try Joe was moved back a distance and successfully guessed the name!
And the theme winner was Ken Scott!
