The October meeting of the Georgia Magic Club consisted of our annual
auction. A wonderful facility at First Baptist Church of Roswell was
provided by
Tommy Johns, and
Jack Corcoran, our presumed auctioneer, was
unexpectedly called away but sent a very professional and gracious
replacement who, despite her not being a magician, was nevertheless
enthusiastic and extremely cordial. During her breaks, Ring 9 President
Joe M. Turner played the role of auctioneer.
The auction was well attended. Some of our sellers included
David Ginn,
Dan Garrett,
Eric Anderson,
Ken Scott, Tommy Johns,
Rick Hinze, and the
currently-overseas
Jay Altemus, whose collection was auctioned by prior
arrangement. The indispensible
Scott Horn managed to keep all the records
straight, almost a magical feat in itself.
Because our regular meeting did not take place, there is some space in our
ring report to share some other news about magic happenings in
Atlanta. Our informal magic jam sessions have been a big hit and we had
two of them in October. The first, focusing on presentation skills, was
held at the home of
Paul and Sherry Sponaugle and was attended by Rick
Hinze,
Evan Reynolds, Joe M. Turner and
Lee Cox. The second, hosted by Joe
M. Turner, began with a focus on some Marlo videos but eventually became a
close-up free-for-all. It was attended by Scott Horn, Eric Anderson,
Lee
Cox and
Colm Mulcahy.
Financial wizard
Eric Henning, a Maryland magician visiting Atlanta for a
financial conference, was greeted at his hotel by Joe M. Turner early in
the month.
Atlanta is a great town for magical hospitality. If you're passing
through, make sure to give one of us a call or email - see
www.gamagicclub.com for a list of email addresses.
