Ring Nine in Atlanta has been very busy over the last few
months, even though there have been no ring reports of our activities, due to
the missing of deadlines by our humble and contrite ring reporter. We have
had a wonderful time hosting the SEAM, we have had lectures by Charles Gauci,
Lee Earle, Richard Bartram, Jr., and Daytona Magic, we
hosted our annual auction and we have had a couple of terrific meetings, filled
with great magic and terrific fun!
Special thanks to Ring Nine members who
have presented recent mini-lectures: Patrick Floyd for
"Hands-Off Miracles - Applications for a Stacked Deck; and David
Smith for "Empowerment Magic." We have had new members every
month and the size and quality of our Ring continues to
grow.
Our most recent meeting, in November, had as its theme, Turkey
Magic. Our themes each month are often WIDELY interpreted and this meeting
was no exception. After a very entertaining performance for membership by
Keith Rainey, the "competition" began! Carey
Huddleston grew a turkey from "scratch" in a Square Circle. He
shared with us many interesting and little known facts about that noble and
delicious bird. The turkey turned out to be our own Ring Nine President
Paul Sponaugle (or at least a reasonable facsimile of the
same)! Tommy Johns allowed a Beanie Baby turkey to help
find a selected card. Paul Sponaugle demonstrated a card
rise that was a real turkey, and Lynn Fox, AKA the
Crocodile Hunter, managed to catch a wild turkey (not the liquid - the bird) and
allowed the bird to do a signed card in egg trick (don't ask - you don't want to
know!). At the end of the ballot counting, Corey Huddleston and Lynn
Fox tied for the Coveted Royal Blue Pen and a certificate suitable for
framing. Congratulations, Lynn and Corey!
Other magic included Christophe Fouquet's
card printer, Gene Hendrix's fun and funny routine for
professor's nightmare, using mass hypnosis, and James Mangham's
wand collection. Ted Harty closed the evening with "The
World's Greatest Card Trick," a new item which is VERY strong, with the help of
volunteer Victoria Skye.
If you are ever in the Atlanta area, we’d love to meet you! Come
to a club meeting or e-mail one of us and we’ll let you know
what’s going on!
