I.B.M. Ring 9
Ring Reports
Our February Meeting opened with a Pre-Meeting Mini Lecture by the inimitable Dan Garrett. He taught some amazing and fun close-up magic and provided us with signed numbered lecture notes. Thanks. Dan!
In our business meeting we decided to move the club library to Kennesaw Magic Shop. That way everyone could access it. And with the business done, we shot straight on to the magic!
Dan Garrett demonstrated the power of imagination. A spectator mentally selected a card. Dan put it in a real but empty envelope…sealed it and then reopened it, showing a brown envelope … with the named card in it.
Ted Harty had a mystery box. Mark Hatfield held onto the mystery box, although Ted locked it so he couldn’t peek. Mark signed a card. It appeared and disappeared repeatedly finally reappearing inside a metal case in the locked box.
Gene Hendrix took four blank cards and "printed" a back, then reprinted it with the front…finally erasing it and ending with four blank cards.
Carey Huddlestun made a coin vanish and then sneezed it back out. He then made it jump from hand to hand until it transposed with a differently colored coin in the hand of a child.
Doyne Michie didn’t do the Texas Penny much to our disappointment. Instead he did a card trick that he created. He had four tens and dealt a pair of tens to himself and to Gary Vaughn. He then dealt two queens to himself and Gary. Doyne’s hand changed…then changed again…then multiplied…only to find that Gary’s hand had changed to a royal flush!
David Oglesby did three card Monte with water…water poured from cup to cup…cups switched places…then the water totally disappeared from ALL the cups and reappeared from the first cup which had been placed off to the side!
Bill Packard had a piece of rope … with two ends… no ends…it’s a loop! What a wacky rope! He cut it with his fingers and then restored it...knots appeared and disappeared…ending with a totally nightmarish rope routine that was pretty funny.
Keith Rainey had a premonition last night. He had someone name a card. He gave them a deck in a case…the named card was missing. He reminded us of his premonition…the named card was in his pocket. He possibly had the best spectator reaction of the evening from a bearded man who stared in amazement and said "I want to do that when I grow up!"
Yvonne Shelnutt dedicated this trick to her late brother, Alan Conley. She made a beautiful presentation while producing multiple items from a dream bag.
Gary Vaughn pulled out four cards…they kept turning upside down and right side up in his hands. And when we’d seen them all flipping he showed that they had all changed to totally different cards.
For general magic, Jeff W. started a prediction routine…a card was mentally selected. Jeff pulled a large sheet out with a bar code, which he claimed was the selected card…and on the back, to prove it, was written the selected card!
Rick Silver had a card selected. Jeff spelled out the value and suit, choosing whether to lie or tell the truth. He then piled the cards up. Rick then had him discard piles almost at random, until the only card left was the named card.
The winner of the theme was Bill Packard!
