Our January 2010 meeting began with award presentations originally scheduled for the more prestigious setting of our annual banquet, unfortunately cancelled due to icy roads. Ken Scott was given a plaque to commemorate his title of the previous year's Greater Atlanta Magician of the Year, as he transferred ownership of our huge "traveling" trophy. Debbie Leifer won for best Mini Lecturer of 2009, awarded a magic book by Mini Lecture Chair Joe M. Turner.

The big announcement of the evening was our 2009 Greater Atlanta Magician of the Year - awarded to Dan Garrett. This prestigious annual award is voted on by members of Ring 9 and Assembly 30. Outgoing president Debbie Leifer announced Dan Garrett's name and presented him with the huge trophy that bears the name of all previous winners. Dan gave a humble speech, acknowledging and thanking many members and friends.

The evening's Mini Lecture topic was the result of significant conversation on our Yahoo group about the best Card to Wallet. Arthur Atsma brought an impressive collection of wallets, and talked about the methods and benefits of each individual wallet style and magical method.

New president Evan Reynolds ran an efficient meeting with announcements for the year's plans, including updating of our Bylaws, planning a club show, and mentoring sessions. We enjoyed two performances for membership, Ruben Fernandez presented a Torn and Restored Card Transposition, and Jay Schanerman escaped from thumb cuffs and then from a straight jacket.

The evening's theme was "New Magic". Arthur Atsma entertained with a beautiful Dean's Box, telling a Christmas story about Scrooge. Darryl Berman demonstrated Brainwave using only 6 cards, concluding with a coin production. Merritt Ambrose showed his new Cups and Balls vanish, followed by an 8 ball production combined with eight of clubs production.

Dan Garrett entertained us with the strange coincidence that in the vintage family photo on his iPhone his uncle had posed holding the chosen card, plus a color changing card prediction, and "Pasteboard Police" card to wallet. Ron Gladstone identified freely selected playing cards. Debbie Leifer magically printed money on a vintage wooden blotter. Carey Huddleston presented a rapid Magic Square.

For General Magic, Joe Morrison caused a small plastic violin to play any song named, and Keith Rainey located four selected cards after the deck was cut and shuffled by a spectator.

Winner of the Coveted Royal Blue Pen Award for January was Arthur Atsma.
