Our July meeting began with a mini lecture by Jay Schanerman, who performed several invisible thread techniques including an animated matchbook, self-folding bill, a floating bill, a wiggly worm, and the helicopter card.

Our performances began with Merritt Ambrose entertaining us with his contest act that featured a tea bag and teacup routine that concluded with the production of loose tea, wine bottle production and table penetration, and surprising conclusion of a signed chosen card inside the sealed wine bottle.

This month's magic theme was Kid Show Magic. A few members brought young children to the meeting, so we had genuine reactions and participation from youthful participants. We voted on the prospective member performance of Gary Whatley, who brought up all of our young guests to assist with a signed coin in small nest of boxes routine.

Bill Packard performed a very cute and well-routined Balloon to Rabbit Box that was clearly straight out of his professional children's show repertoire. Rick Silver created a giant balloon octopus for a cute young audience member, to the most appropriate music.

Darryl Berman presented his own version of Color Monte featuring images from the animated film Nemo. Martin Baratz blew bubbles into the air and turned two of them into solid clear bubbles, he performed Chinese Sticks, and had the audience laughing with a surprise ending to his mouth coil routine.

Evan Reynolds had a playing card chosen, and relied on Rocky the Raccoon to read the spectator's mind. After four inaccurate cards were inserted into a standing open wooden frame, Evan turned the frame around to reveal the cards backs formed a jumbo image of the chosen card.

Dan Garrett
led us to believe he was producing a rabbit from top hat, but the white ears were actually the edge of a giant sponge tooth. After producing a "blue tooth", Dan entertained us with Copy Cats and the story of Sir Basil, complete with English accent. The vanished cat appeared on his young audience assistant's back.

Jim Magus had us laughing as his pet "hot" dog Frank vanished, followed by a very amusing Cut and Restored Rope routine with the assistance of Preston Turner. Patrick Ferrell had us wondering as he displayed a huge Movie Star Machine, and emerged from underneath the curtain complete with costume.

For General Magic, we were delighted by the introduction of young guests Haley and Preston Turner who performed their own magic. Haley presented an interesting math-based routine that resulting in her accurate prediction of a four digit number. Preston amused us with a card trick.

Todd Herron, visiting from Athens GA, caused smoke and a stuffed rabbit to appear from a seemingly empty top hat with the assistance of Mary Doty. Gary Vaughn performed a Las Vegas themed routine with cards featuring large red and blue diamonds that changed places, and the surprise conclusion transforming them into a playing card full house.

After young member Ben Goldfein had a playing card chosen, he caused the chosen card to magically penetrate a rubberbanded deck. Jean Marc performed an impressive one coin routine. Paul Sponaugle entertained us with an Ambitious Card routine that combined many amusing locations of the chosen card, concluding with a hole suddenly appearing in the center of the entire deck.

Winner of the Coveted Royal Blue Pen award for July was Evan Reynolds.
