Our theme for May was the very unusual "Eat This!", Magic With Food. Arthur Atsma ate some wire, six glowing light bulbs, then instantly retrieved them all out from his mouth. The bulbs magically became threaded on the wire, and actually emerged from his mouth lit! A great light snack!

Andy Pascual shared a bag of four varieties of miniature chocolate bars. Asked to choose his favorite, a young guest named Hunter picked the Krackle bar, which Andy proved that he had previously accurately predicted. He followed with another demonstration in mind reading utilizing a variety of chocolate bars.

Kirk Pumphrey followed with a most unusual magic act. He performed his edible version of Cups and Balls utilizing 3 ice cream cones covering 3 meatballs (yes, you read that correctly!) He then performed an edible version of Linking Rings using onion rings from an Atlanta landmark restaurant, the Varsity. They actually linked together! Unfortunately he didn't use a locking key. After presenting pasta through bubble gum (ya hadda be there!), he cut up string licorice of 3 different lengths that all magically become equal in length. Imagine that! Finally, a vanished quarter of a dollar bill magically appeared in - believe it or not - Waffle House hash browns! Complete with proving it was really torn from the original borrowed bill by displaying that the serial numbers matched. Kirk certainly gets an "A" for effort (he had to run around town to probably 10 places to gather his food props), and an "A" for creativity.

Earl South delighted us with a very funny presentation. Had no idea he was such a good actor! He asked Kim to write numbers on several Sweet & Low packets. She ultimately eliminated all packets but one by mixing them up and repeatedly dropping them out of a Starbucks coffee cup. Eventually, the high-spirited Earl revealed that he had accurately predicted the number 6. He was very excited from all the caffeine, we were delighted by his clever presentation.

Joe M. Turner shared the story of his early marketing attempts at creating an ad to sell his magical performances. He condensed the ad several times, until it exclaimed that he "Will Do Tricks For Food." Joe then presented Bill in Peanut, well executed. Two borrowed bills were ripped in half, the halves given to the owners as receipts. An audience member held a freely chosen peanut. The vanished halves of each bill magically appeared inside the peanut shell.

Cesar Vega made popcorn magically appear in a pan. Continuing his reputation for unusual magic, popcorn kernels jumped into his eyes. Ernie Becker so graciously donated a door prize that KC Roberts won.

We then enjoyed a variety of General Magic performances. Keith Rainey once again proved his technical abilities and exceptional choices of material beginning with his version of Thought Of Card At Any Location. Then a spectator named a random number, Keith named the card, and after counting down, the card was magically discovered at that position in the deck! Keith then asked the spectator to cut the cards to any location… Keith knew what position was cut to, and what the card was. Very strong performance!

Joe M. Turner followed with impressive sleight-of-hand magic. First he demonstrated an original mystery using a coin and finger ring. This was followed by a very nice routine where a borrowed five dollar bill and Joe's one dollar bill changed places right in the spectator's hand, with a great surprise ending!

Winner of Royal Blue Pen for May was Kirk Pumphrey.
