No. 9, Atlanta, Georgia – Georgia Magic Club
November 2005
Our theme for November was Magic For Readers. Our business meeting included the very significant announcement of our two finalists for 2005 Greater Atlanta Magician of the Year. Nominees included an impressive list of candidates who have excelled this year regarding landmark performances, service to our club, and an outstanding number of benefit performances. The seven very worthy candidates were Ken Scott, Evan Reynolds, Rick Silver, Gene Hendrix, Tommy Johns, Joe M. Turner, and Debbie Leifer. We congratulate our two finalists Tommy Johns (our current Magician of the Year), and Gene Hendrix.
Our pre-meeting "mini-lecture" was presented by Bob Sanders who visited us from Alabama to explain various points of working with silks. Many members were pleased with his many silk items he offered for sale after his "mini-lecture".
Andy Pascual performed an interesting variation of Jack and The Beanstalk using the pages he removed from a very small book. Although he continually mixed up the pages, somehow he managed to tell the entire popular children's story in a clever fashion. Guy Phillips transformed into a very strange character who made four "correct" predictions… some people are still wondering how he did it, while others are wondering why. ;-) Lynn Fox continued his long tradition of performing Turkey magic at our November meeting (take that any way you want!) He introduced the book "Magic For Dummies" (I hope he wasn't referring to his audience!) and performed a very timely alphabet card trick that concluded with his wish for all of us to enjoy a Happy Thanksgiving. Arthur Atsma, a very welcome first-time visitor, performed a very animated and enthusiastic presentation of Wolf's Magic "The Wacky Worm". Ron Myers offered a very funny presentation involving some mentalism with three pigs. Glad he took it seriously and didn't "ham it up!" During the General Magic portion of performances, the always entertaining Gene Hendrix treated us to some magic with rainbow silks. This was followed by a very impressive demonstration of multiple coin productions by Keith Rainey. Andy Pascual (our incoming 2006 President) won our Coveted Royal Blue Pen for the best November meeting performance.
