Our October 2008 meeting was the much-anticipated occasion of our annual Magic Auction! The evening began with a fun Flea Market, where members displayed their wares of smaller items they wanted to sell directly to interested buyers. Items ranged from a huge multi-year magic magazine collection, to lots of instructional VHS tapes and DVDs, to every style of close-up, mentalism, and children's magic.

Our business meeting that followed had one very important agenda item, the nomination of officers, board members, and our 2008 Magician of the Year. A very spirited nomination session included several nominations for next year's club President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer, as well as Members at Large of our Board of Directors. Five worthy candidates for the highly respected title of Greater Atlanta Magician of the Year were nominated: Ken Scott, Joe M. Turner, Arthur Atsma, Howie Marmer, and Dan Garrett. Voting will take place via mailed ballots in the coming month.

On to the big event of the evening, we were excited to once again have the benefit of the professional services of one of our members, licensed auctioneer Jack Corcoran. Auction items included lots more instructional videos, several magic books, new and used close-up and stage magic of every variety, and some interesting vintage magic paraphernalia. The big bargain of the evening was a Super X levitation that went home with one of the few illusionists in town for an amazing bargain price! Our auction is consistently Ring 9's most interesting and most social meeting, and this year was no exception… it was a fun, entertaining, memorable evening.

If you find yourself in Atlanta on the third Monday of any month, please join us for a relaxing evening of magic and friendship. We have an awesome club full of enthusiastic, talented folks who are very generous with their knowledge. With our outstanding Mini Lectures and Theme Performances every month, our meetings are both enlightening and amusing.
