With the crisp autumn air, and changing colors of the trees, we all look forward to our October meeting being our Annual Magic Auction.
We began the evening with a quick business meeting that included a report on the overwhelming success of our Annual Club Show. We had unprecedented interest from the public, resulting in more than $1600 in ticket sales, and a nice profit for the club's treasury that will surely be enjoyed by our members for a long time to come. President Andy Pascual opened the floor for additional nominations for Magician Of The Year.
As a testament to their hard work, professional performances, club activities, and numerous charity performances, our 2006 nominees for Greater Atlanta Magician Of The Year are: Ken Scott, Joe M. Turner, Evan Reynolds, Arthur Atsma, and Debbie Leifer.
There was noticeable excitement in the room as many shoppers happily purchased magic props and books during our "Flea Market". Sellers were happy (or for the most part their wives probably were!) to pass on the magical props and books they either didn't have an affinity for, or grew tired of. Some great bargains were excitedly scooped up by dozens of very happy buyers!
Then on to our auction. At the helm was Jack Corcoran. For several years we've been lucky to have Jack, a longtime member of our club as well as a certified auctioneer, run our auction. Jack has a speedy manner with which he manages to move along hundreds of items for sale, while adding a professional touch with his lightening-fast professional auctioneering delivery.
Magic tricks old and new, lots of books, stacks of magazines, instructional videotapes and DVDs, a couple of very cool side tables, even a backdrop, all seemed to garner the attention of the members who seemed happy to walk away with their newfound treasures. There was some fast and furious bidding on a few items that peaked the audience's interest, of course Jack's auctioneering skills really shone through as he kept us under control while managing to encourage hesitant bidders to stay in the fray. A good time was had by all, and along the way, sellers profited handsomely, buyers increased their magic collections, and the club even turned a nice profit on the event. I really love Magic Auctions….
