Our September meeting began with a Mini-Lecture by DEBBIE LEIFER. In this condensed version of her new lecture "Curveballs: Handling Unexpected Challenges Onstage," Debbie shared funny stories combined with tips on how Preparation, Experience, and Composure will help magicians handle everything from hecklers, to audience assistants who refuse to cooperate, to unexpected problems with props. After performing a MisMade Flag that went awry to demonstrate how an audience assistant once unexpectedly altered the ending of that trick, Debbie got us all involved in an amusing multiple-choice poll that was a fun way to learn the best possible "outs" a magician can use when confronted with onstage challenges that require lightening-quick thinking to effectively handle a problem while maintaining composure.

During our business meeting we learned new details of the August 2008 SEAM Convention we will host in Atlanta. President DALE ADAMSON shared some exciting announcements about the evening show venue, performers we are considering for shows and lectures, as well as four convention lectures by Atlanta magicians.

Our theme for September was "The A B C's of School Magic." CAREY HUDDLESTUN performed an interactive routine where audience members got to randomly determine the order of two sets of cards. After repeatedly having a free choice of the sequence of cards, the volunteers discovered that the two piles were still in perfectly matched order.

BILL PACKARD shared one of the routines from his library and school show about the 7 Wonders of the World. Bill magically walked through a solid rope being held by two audience members while cleverly relating it to walking through the Great Wall of China.

DEBBIE LEIFER entertained us with a double transition of a flower printed on a silk, a segment from her Character Development show for elementary schools. After getting an audience member to "throw" imaginary colors onto the scarf, Debbie related how children can grow up to be anything they want to be by making the original black and white flower silk magically grow into a giant image of a colorful flower.

There was a tie for the second time this year for the Coveted Royal Blue Pen Award, our winners for September 2007 best theme performance were DEBBIE LEIFER and BILL PACKARD.

If you are lucky enough to be in Atlanta on the third Monday of any month, we encourage you to join us for an enjoyable evening of magic performances, an educational mini-lecture by one of our members, and the opportunity to make some new friends!
