Our September meeting was scheduled during a week of significant flooding throughout Atlanta. The day we were to meet, the skies opened up again, causing many of our regulars to stay home due to the severe storms. The small number of folks who persevered to attend the meeting each arrived at the venue assuming they may be the only one who ventured out that night, but slowly, six members and three guests arrived. It turned out to be an interesting and surprisingly positive experience for all in attendance.

Our Mini Lecture was "The Magic of Dai Vernon" presented by Debbie Leifer. A short PowerPoint presentation featured an overview of Dai Vernon's life and impressive career. Then Debbie performed and taught two of "The Professor's" routines, Spelltration followed by Six Card Repeat.

The magic theme for the evening was "The ABCs of School Magic", a popular premise that has traditionally encouraged many to perform their favorite school, educational, and library routines. Dennis Aloia folded up two $1 bills and magically caused them to meld into a $2.00 bill, followed by a reversal of the process to end with his original singles. Darryl Berman performed Color Changing Shoelaces, and Debbie Leifer tucked a white silk into her fist, magically transforming it into a rainbow colored very long streamer.

Bill Packard performed a very entertaining version of the No. 2 pencil, followed by three first-time visitors all contributing to the evening by performing for the evening's educational theme. Keith Schroder vanished some burnt matches, performed Coins Across, and Torn & Restored Business Card; followed by Gary Zermuehlen's presentation of Stratospheres.

For General Magic, Dennis Aloia performed a coin transposition with a glass and bag, followed by a card vanish. Darryl Berman presented a business card routine, followed by Ron Gladstone performing a very entertaining Mental Divination of a Selected Movie Title. Bill Packard followed with a very cute Short Change routine involving a bank customer feeling cheated by a teller when they repeatedly counted their withdrawal with surprising results. And Keith Rainey entertained with an interactive Card Discovery.

Winner of the Coveted Royal Blue Pen award for September was Bill Packard.
